Biodecon Technology Platform

Opportunity: Various herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides (biocides) are used on a massive scale to secure the world’s food supply. However, their application spoils the soil and humans are unnecessarily exposed to these powerful chemicals when working in agriculture, especially when in contact with the application equipment where these chemicals reside in high concentration.

Biodecon Solution: Biodecon is a promising solution to decontaminate spraying equipment and minimize human exposure to toxic chemicals and subsequent poisonings. Biodecon has already been shown in a proof of concept to neutralize certain herbicides in laboratory tests. As many of the other herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides are chemically similar to chemical warfare agents, to which Biodecon already is proven to be effective against, continued positive results are expected in this area. Cleaning the soil itself of biocides is an interesting concept that needs further research.

Biodecon already has proven effectiveness against biological warfare agents that are similar to the bacteria that infects and kills the most vulnerable. The solution can become a staple of hospital furnishings as the solution can also be used for other purposes, e.g. decontamination of chemical and biological warfare agents, as well as cleaning of face masks and other PPE (concept).

Biodecon can both be applied at the plants producing the toxic chemicals (e.g. biocides) and also at the next step in the supply-chain that uses them as inputs in their transformation process.

Opportunity: Face masks and other personal protection equipment are currently in the year 2020 a hot topic due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the efforts taken by everyone to stop the pandemic. However, current capacity expansion into PPE production will not be cost effective to maintain outside of crisis times and therefore precious time will always be spent to ramp-up in a crisis, time society can’t afford. There is currently a lot of interest into reusability of PPE and there will also be in the future.

Biodecon Solution: Biodecon is a promising solution that has proven effectiveness against more difficult targets than viruses and is considered in expert opinion to have ingredients rendering it highly effective against corona viruses. It is straightforward to test whether the concept is workable; can the PPE materials withstand the Biodecon solution by itself and then being washed with it. This feature would add to Biodecon’s many potential use-cases, securing its place in the arsenal of hospitals, rescue services, and defense forces – the shelf space pays for itself several times over.
